Abstract

1477992 Rear axle suspensions FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 12 Jan 1976 [30 May 1975] 00979/76 Heading B7D In a motor vehicle rear axle suspension comprising upper and lower pairs of links 4, 5 connecting an axle 1 to the vehicle body, the connections 13 14 at each end of the upper links 5 are arranged to transmit lateral forces, and a torsionally resilient coupling element 16 rigidly secured to the upper links 5 near their connections 13 to the body is arranged to act in a rigid manner to resist rotation of the links 5 in a transverse plane under the influence of side faces but permits oppositely directed vertical deflections of the links. As shown the coupling element 16 is a spring leaf stiffened by one bent edge 18 and secured to screws 17 to the links 5. The coupling element 16 may alternatively be a U-section, L-section, T-section, or X-section bar, a tube of circular or elliptical section, or a single-skin or multi-skin metal pressing.
