Abstract
1477597 Electrostatic precipitation installation AL EFREMIDI and AL SARALIDZE 23 Oct 1975 43627/75 Heading H2H Electrostatic precipitation apparatus comprises at least two precipitators 6, 7 having corona and receiving electrodes 8, 10 and 9, 11 respectively, the corona electrodes 8, 9 being connected to the high voltage winding 2 of a transformer 1, the primary winding 14 of which is supplied from an A.C. supply by way of a switch 16 and an inductor 15, the winding 2 further having a pair of opposing diodes 3, 4 connected thereacross the common point of which diodes is connected to the receiving electrodes 10, 11 and to earth, the arrangement being such that each precipitator, together with the high voltage winding, forms a discharge path for the other precipitator. Inductors 12, 13 may be connected between the winding 2 and the electrodes 8, 9 if desired. In operation, the switch 16, which may be a thyristor, is closed at the beginning of a half-cycle of the A.C. supply whereupon the electrode gap 6 charges by way of the diode 3 until the maximum voltage of the half-cycle. Diode 3 then cuts-off and the change in the gap 6 discharges into the electrode gap 7. During the next half-cycle of the supply the gap 7 charges by way of the diode 4 until the diode 4 cuts off when the gap 7 discharges into the gap 6 and the process repeats. Dust which collects on the receiving electrodes is discharged therefrom in the periods when the voltage across the electrode gaps is zero.
