Abstract

1477126 Holder for lens blank during grinding WERNICKE & CO GmbH 9 Feb 1976 [18 Feb 1975] 04890/76 Heading B3D A spectacle lens holder for use during grinding of the contours and chamfer on a spectacle lens B comprises two coaxial half shafts 1, 2 having respective lens engaging contact members, one member 10 being supported on its half shaft by a ball joint 6 and retained by a stud 12 mounted coaxially on the half shaft and extending through an aperture 11 of the member, the member having a flat face supporting a resilient disc 15 arranged to bear on the spectacle lens, the disc being slidable on the contact member and retained on the half shaft by the stud. The half shaft 1 has a resilient contact member 4 for engaging one surface of the lens B, the other surface of the lens being engaged by the resilient member 15 which may be formed with a recess 15a and have projections or ribs to measure friction on its lens engaging surface 16. The member 15 is slidable on the contact element 10 and is retained thereon by the stud 12 which is in the form of a screw having a head 14 located in a frusto-conical recess 13 in the member. The screw also passes through a cylindrical or conical bore 11 in the contact member 10 which has a cup-shaped recess 9 engaged by a ball 6 secured to the half-shaft 2. A stud 21 extends through the ball-head and is received in radial grooves 25, 26 in the contact member to transmit rotation of the half shaft 2 to the contact member 10. The arrangement is such that tilting of the contact member 10 is possible to any angle of inclination within limits with respect to the axis A of the half shaft 2, and the resilient member 15, being slidable with respect to the contact member, is held radially immovable with respect to the lens by the screw 12.
