Abstract

1476877 Electrostatic precipitators C R S INDUSTRIES INC 21 March 1975 11940/75 Heading B2J [Also in Division H2] An electrostatic precipitator comprises first and second electrode assemblies, each assembly being coupled with the output of a respective signal generator, one of the signal generators producing a frequency modulated output, and control means to vary this modulated output so that it is kept in resonance with its respective electrode assembly. The precipitator comprises a first electrode system 10 comprising a plurality of elongate electrodes 20 of elliptical cross-section all connected to a common signal line 26 and arranged across the gas path, there being a further similarly shaped electrode 28 between them connected to earth 30. A second electrode system 14 comprises a grid 34, 38 also placed across the gas path and spaced from the first system. The first system 10 is supplied with d.c. superimposed on an a.c. signal and the second system 14 with a f.m. a.c. signal. In operation, the first system 10 breaks up particles of dissimilar substance and causes the same substance to reunite into larger particles which are charged by the second system 14.
