Abstract

1476634 Hydraulic jacks CLAYTON DEWANDRE CO Ltd 7 Jan 1975 [31 Oct 1973] 50586/73 Heading FID [Also in Division F2] Means for controlling a double-acting hydraulic ram comprises two valves V1, V2 each having a check-valve 8 controlling an inlet 6 connected to a source of fluid-pressure e.g. a pump and a valve 9 controlling flow to a reservoir and opened by a plunger 11. A common loading spring 10 acts on the two valves and a distance piece 12 may be provided to transmit a thrust from one valve to the other. The two plungers are mechanically coupled so that only one of the valves 9 may be opened at a time. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown) the valves may take the form of hollow sliding pistons with frusto-conical seat-engaging surfaces. Figs. 4 and 5 illustrate a combined pump, valve and reservoirs for a jack. The outlet 27 from a pump chamber 22 is connected to the two inlet check-valves 8, passageways 4 are connected to the double-acting ram and the chamber 28 is connected to a reservoir 21. Valves 9 are controlled by a common face cam 29 operating through spring-loaded ball followers 30. The supply from the reservoir to the pump is controlled by a ball check-valve 23 and a pressure relief valve 33 relieves excessive pump pressure to the reservoir.
