1476511 Purification of unsaturated fatty acids or esters HENKEL & CIE GmbH 12 July 1974 [14 July 1973] 30884/74 Heading C2C Fatty acid acids or esters are purified from fractions with multiple unsaturation by heating in the presence of montmorillonite with a specific surface of more than 150 m.<SP>2</SP> per gram to 110‹ to 210‹ C., and then distilling to separate the mixture. Oleic acid or esters thereof or natural mixtures such as fatty acids of olive, palm and groundnut oil may be used. 2-25% by weight of montmorillonite may be used, and the process may be continuous. Examples describe the treatment of methyl esters of oleic acid and linoleic acid with minor amounts of saturated fatty acids (14-18 C).
