Abstract

1475442 Visual landing aids for aircraft DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 30 Dec 1975 [3 Jan 1975] 317/75 Heading G4F An airfield visual glide slope is afforded by two rows 1, 2 of lights, row 1 being near the runway threshold and row 2 being between 40 and 700 metres nearer to the mid-point thereof, the angles of elevation of the lights differ, and each light produces a beam which has a sharp transition between white and red (so-called "sharptransition VASI" lighting unit). Figs. 3a, b, c (not shown) illustrate the scene when an aircraft is in various positions relative to the correct (3 degree) glide slope. Similar rows of lights may be added symmetrically on the other side of the runway.
