Abstract

1474964 Friction clutch plates AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS Ltd 29 July 1975 [1 Aug 1974] 34045/74 Heading F2U A driven plate for a friction clutch comprises an annular disc 11 of resiliently deformable material having an outer portion 12 to carry friction facings 14, an inner portion 15 foi connection to a shaft and an intermediate portion formed with windows 17, 19 to allow flexing under torsional loading of the plate, at least some of the windows (19) having opposite peripheral portions which contact one with the other during flexing to increase the resistance to further flexing. The disc 11 may be made of glass filled nylon and riveted to spring steel segments 13, the hub portion 16 being made of metal if desired. Over a first range of torsional deflection the slots 19 assist the flexing. Under large deflections the slots 19 close up and one side of each slot slides over the other to give friction damping and a higher torsional stiffness to the plate. The spokes 18 formed by the windows need not be straight, Figs. 3 to 11 (not shown), and opposite peripheral portions of windows after contact may slide over one another, be deflected to provide additional stiffness and come into abutment such as to provide further stiffness.
