Abstract
Monomeric, oligomeric and/or polymeric substances or mixtures of substances contain at least one water-insoluble fluorosilane of the formula <IMAGE> R1 is an aliphatic, alicyclic, aromatic or heterocyclic radical with 5 - 12 C atoms, the latter being bonded via a C atom to the Si atom, or radical which has a maximum of 12 C atoms and is an optionally nucleus-substituted, by lower alkyl groups or a vinyl group, benzyl or styryl or cyclohexylalkyl, where the alkyl radical in the cyclohexylalkyl radical contains 2 - 5 C atoms and the cyclohexyl radical is substituted by one or two hydroxyl groups and/or lower alkoxy groups or by an epoxide oxygen atom R2 and R3 are each either - fluorine or - a hydroxyl or alkoxy group or - a radical corresponding to R1. The substances are used for dental purposes, e.g. for dentures, artificial teeth, materials for crowns and bridges etc. They have the good physical properties required for dental purposes, such as resistance to abrasion etc., and exert a lasting cariostatic effect on the enamel owing to continuous elimination of fluorine ions.
