Abstract

Condensation of 2-hydroxy-3-arylamido-1-naphthaldehydes, which can be substituted in the naphthol nucleus by a chlorine or bromine atom, with ammonia, an aromatic amine of the benzene or naphthalene series or a heterocyclic amine results in azamethine compounds which are suitable as colouring agents, especially for the pigmenting of printing pastes, high molecular weight plastic compositions or surface coatings.
