Abstract

1472533 Reliquefying boil-off gas PETROCARBON DEVELOPMENTS Ltd 27 June 1974 [27 June 1973] 30455/73 Heading F4P An LNG carrier has part of the boil-off gas reliquefied, using liquefied gas to cool the gas during the reliquefaction process. Boil-off gas from cargo tanks 1 is compressed in compressor 3. Part of the compressed gas passes in line 15 to the ship's engine, and part passes through line 16 to be further compressed in compressor set 6, e.g. to 700 p.s.i., and cooled in heat exchangers 25, 26. The gas is then condensed at 7, and passes to a gas/liquid separator 9. The condenser 7 is cooled by boil-off gas in line 12, by liquefied gas taken from the cargo tanks in line 17 and by gas from the separator 9. The gas in line 17 is recycled through the compressor set 6. The condenser 7 may be further cooled by gas expanded through the valve 24 to the line 17. Alternatively this gas may be fed to the line 14 or the line 16.
