Abstract

1472461 Reciprocating pumps THOMAS WILLETT & CO Ltd 21 Jan 1975 [22 Feb 1974] 8207/74 Heading F1A A system for pumping solid-containing liquid, e.g. liquid clay, slip, slurry or effluent, into a filter press comprises a first hydraulically-actuated reciprocating pump 10 connected between an inlet 17 and an outlet 23, and a second hydraulicallyactuated pump 20 of low pressure, high delivery type, e.g. centrifugal, axial-flow or Archimedianscrew, also connected between inlet 17 and outlet 23 and having a check-valve 27 isolating its delivery side from that of the first pump, the pumps being controlled by a timer or by a pressure sensor in the filter press, so that the second pump is operated first to fill the filter press, and is then disabled while the first pump is operated to complete the filtering cycle at high-pressure An electric motordriven pump 28 supplies driving liquid to actuating jack 14 of pump 10 or hydraulic motor 21 of pump 20 via valves 30, 34 controlled by valve 33 actuated by the timer or pressure sensor.
