Abstract
1471494 Gas turbine plant; generating combustion gases under pressure VEREINIGTE FLUGTECHNISCHE WERKE-FOKKER GmbH 29 May 1974 23764/74 Headings F1G and F1L A power unit for starting an aircraft engine and for driving aircraft auxiliary equipment comprises a compressor 11 supplying air to a combustion chamber 16 where fuel is burnt, the products passing to turbine stages 20, and an additional combustion chamber 27 in which a monopropellant such as hydrazine, from tank 25 is burnt when required, engine fuel being injected at 28 and vaporized prior to admission of the propellent gases into turbine stages 20. During hydrazine combustion a clutch 29 can disconnect the turbine stages 20 from compressor 11. Alternatively the unit may be of two shaft construction. A rotary valve 13 can close off compressor intake 12.
