Abstract
1471387 Gas springs acting as electrical connections STABILUS GmbH 20 June 1974 [28 June 1973] 27346/74 Heading F2S [Also in Divisions E2 and H2] The piston-cylinder gas spring 1, for opening the rear flap 37, of a motor vehicle is constructed so as to provide an electrical connection to supply current from the vehicle body to a heater or wiper on the flap, whilst insulating the body from the flap. The end-connections 5, 6 of the gas spring are made of plastics material. There is a current path through the rest of the gas spring between terminal connectors 7, 8. If the gas spring is to be used as a switch, a contact spring 11 is provided. The electrical connection is then via the piston-rod, the piston and the contact spring 11 and is broken when the piston moves away from the contact spring 11 as the gas spring is extending. In the closed position of the rear flap 37 the gas spring is contracted and the electrical connection established. If the gas spring is to provide a permanent electrical connection, the contact spring 11 is omitted, and contact is established via the piston-rod, the piston-rod guide 4 and the cylinder walls.
