Abstract
1471335 Analyzing flue gases photo-electrically BAILEY METER CO 9 April 1974 [9 April 1973] 15666/74 Heading G1A In an apparatus for analyzing a flowing gas in a duct, a slotted pipe 6, Fig. 1, extends across the duct between a radiation source 18 and a detector 20; the gas passes through the slotted pipe, and the radiation absorbed by the gas is measured. A purging gas, e.g. air, is blown into each end of the slotted tube via inlets 21, 22 and apertured discs 24, 26, this gas serving to define a flow of the gas being measured and also to keep the optical elements of the measuring system clean. The slotted tube 6 is typically 4" diameter, and may have internal reinforcements, Figs. 2, 4 (not shown). The apertured discs have holes 2" or less and the minimum air flow-rate for consistent measurements is about 2.5 s.c.f.m. per inch of aperture diameter. The discs may have their upper regions angled away from the flow of gas to be measured, Fig. 3 (not shown).
