The lateral elongate outer faces 11 of the peripheral flange 14 converge downwardly and shoulders are provided at each end of each longitudinal edge face to space laterally adjacent slabs over the remainder of their lengths. The slabs may be arranged side by side spanning a slurry pit or channel in an intensive rearing house for cattle or pigs. The apertures 12 may be frusto-conical tapering upwardly.
