Abstract

1470450 Apparatus for forming reserve windings MASCHINENFABRIK RIETER AG 17 Dec 1974 [17 Dec 1973] 54371/74 Addition to 1408670 Heading D1J The invention relates to a modification of the invention set forth in claim 8 of Specification 1408670 and is characterized in that a yarn-retaining means 97 is mounted on the pivotal support 12 instead of the previous yarn severing means the yarn-retaining means 97 as it is lowered holding the yarn fast between a suction unit 85 and the bobbin tube. When the package 5, Fig. 11, reaches its desired diameter the package support 12 is raised to lift the package 5 off its drive roller 6. A loop of yarn extending between the package 5 and supply rollers 4 is then fed by hand into the suction opening 85. The yarn leading to the package 5 is then cut, and the package 5 replaced by an empty bobbin. As the support 12 is lowered to move the empty bobbin into engagement with the drive roll 6 a resilient bottom edge 98 of the yarn retaining means 97 traps the yarn 3 against a side 93 of a guide plate 91. The guide plate 91 has a notch 95 in which the thread runs before being clamped, the notch 95 being aligned with an adhesive zone extending around one end of the bobbin. When the pivotal support 12 is lowered to cause the yarn passing into the suction opening 85 to be trapped between the edge 98 and the side 93 of the plate 91, a loop of yarn builds up under the adhesive zone of the new bobbin since the supply rollers 4 continue to feed yarn. In this way, the yarn loop is picked up and held fast by the adhesive zone at one end of the bobbin. When the yarn has been adequately looped around the tube, the yarn breaks between the tube and the point at which it is held. The following windings form a reserve winding which tucks in the short free end. The yarn is then manually threaded into a traverse guide and normal package winding commences.
