Abstract

1469844 Recording apparatus BENSON SA 6 Aug 1974 34623/74 Heading G1J Graphic recording apparatus in which a strip of flexible record material e.g. paper is moved longitudinally over a rotatable drum 1, driven in accordance with one digital input, and beneath a transversely movable recording head (not shown), driven in accordance with another digital input, the strip being taken up and played out by rollers 2, has three suction chambers 3, 4, 5 to which suction is applied from source 6 to establish sags c between the drum 1 and rolls 7, so that the strip is wrapped around the drum 1, and to establish buffer loops as shown in chambers 3, 4 between the drum 1 and the rollers 2, each side chamber 3, 4 having means such as negative pressure sensors 13 for sensing variations in the length of the loops and for controlling rotation of the rollers 2 to maintain the lengths of the loops. Negative pressure in chambers 3, 4 may be reduced as compared with that in central chamber 5 by providing dampers, valves or orifices 12.
