Abstract
1469317 Plasma heated reaction vessel INSTITUT TEPLO-I MASSOOBMENA AKADEMII NAUK BELORUSSKOI SSR 14 June 1974 26409/74 Heading H5H Plasma torches 3 feed hot gas into the base of a reaction chamber 1 to heat particulate liquid or solid, or gas phase, material fed into the top of the chamber, the reaction products falling into a collection chamber 5 beneath the reaction chamber, hot waste gases escaping through outlets 6, and the torches being arranged at right angles to the vertical axis of the reaction chamber. By providing waste gas outlets beneath the plasma torches (Figs. 4, 5, 6) the plasmas from torches 3 can be split, part going up into the reaction chamber, part going with the reaction products into the collection chamber. Feed material may enter through a hollow electrode (25, Fig. 6, not shown) of a further plasma torch at the top of the reaction chamber for initial heating (e.g. for drying and driving off other volatile matter) of the charge material. Further torches (28, Fig. 7, not shown) may be arranged at right angles to the axis of the chamber at the top of the reaction chamber. When gas outlets are provided from the collection chamber, they may communicate with the collection chamber via a sleeve (22, Fig. 5, not shown) surrounding a further sleeve (21) through which material from the reaction chamber drops into the collection chamber. The spent gases heat the sleeve (21) to prevent solidification of material on the inside wall.
