Abstract

1469170 Erecting cartons KOMBINERADE MASKINSYSTEM AB 19 March 1974 12154/74 Heading B8C Cartons are erected by a device having a sloping magazine 1, the slope of which is adjustable by bars 10 which pivot the magazine bodily about posts 7 carried by a stand 19. The stand supports a carriage which is reciprocable by a cylinder 20 and which carries a sucker 21, a sucker plate 24, and a pivoted stop 17. An erecting arm 22 is pivoted at one end to the sucker plate and at the other to one end of an adjustable joint arm 23, the other end of which is pivoted to the stand. An opener tongue 11, positioned to engage the upper edge of the leading blank 12, is located at the forward end of the magazine on a post 7 and the blanks are urged toward the tongue by a wheeled pusher 13. In operation, the sucker and sucker plate are forwarded to the position shown in phantom lines in Fig. 2, in which position the sucker engages the front wall of the leading blank. Withdrawal of the carriage pulls the leading blank from the magazine, this movement being initially resisted by the tongue 11 which first engages the top edge of the front wall of the blank and then slips over the edges to engage the back wall. Continued withdrawal of the carriage thus opens the blank until the tongue slips over the back wall into contact with the next blank. As the carriage moves to its rearmost position the stop 17 is raised and the arm 22 pivots to the position shown in solid lines in Fig. 2. This completes the opening of the blank, during which time the bottom flaps of the blank are closed. Finally the stop 17 is lowered and the erected carton pushed sideways out of the device by a pusher 18. Where the cartons have a top front flap, the preliminary opening of the blank is assisted by the tongue 11 which pushes the flap backwards into the back wall. The angle of the arm 22 to the sucker plate 24 in the rearmost position of the carriage is preferably just less than 90 degrees but may be varied by suitable adjustment of the joint arm 23.
