Electro-mechanical apparatus, arrangements and applications of.-In an electro-mechanical driving system, the shaft 11 of the internal-combustion engine or other prime mover is in alinement with a hollow shaft 16 through which the vehicle wheels are driven, the field 14 and armature 15 of a dynamo-electric machine being respectively carried by the shafts 11, 16. The engine casing 12 is extended by a housing 26 which carries bearings 27, 28 for the shaft 16, a third bearing 24 being provided between the shafts 11, 16. A second dynamo-electric machine may be provided, the stationary field 18 being carried by the housing 26 and the armature 17 by the shaft 16. The shaft 16 drives a transmission shaft 35 through the toothed change-speed and reversing gear shown.
