1468048 Rail vehicles CREUSOT-LOIRE 4July 1974 [5 July 1973] 29773/74 Heading B7L A rail vehicle for transporting molten metal comprises a ladle pivotally supported at each end by a trunnion 16 rotatable in a plummerblock 8, each plummer-block being mounted on a bogie so as to be rotatable about a vertical axis while at the same time being free to move to a limited extent in the longitudinal direction. The plummer-block is mounted on a part-spherical bearing 9 carried by a support 10 longitudinally movable between steps on a base-plate 11 fast with the bogie. The traction and braking forces on the plummer-block are taken up by abutments 25 on the bogie by means of a strap 30 passing beneath and adjacent to the trunnion and embracing slides 26, 32 and shoes 27, 27<SP>1</SP>. The shoes are located between projections 28 on the block. The curvature of the co-operating faces of the slides and shoes centres on the axis of the bearing 9, 10. Alternatively, the strap 30 is omitted and abutments 25 are provided on each side of the block. Two spring-loaded members 18 are provided on each side of the block to engage the edges of trunnion 16. In operation, the curved faces of the shoes and slides permit movement of the plummer-block about a vertical axis when the rail vehicle is travelling along a curved track, while longitudinal forces arising during traction and braking are taken up firstly in the spring-loaded members 18, then by limited movement of the bearing on the plate 11 and finally by the abutments 25.
