Abstract

1468015 Photographic colour developer compositions MAY & BAKER Ltd 21 Nov 1974 [14 Dec 1973] 58133/73 Heading G2C A photographic colour developer composition is packaged in two or more parts such that on mixing the parts together, if necessary with the addition of water, a working strength colour developer is obtained, one part comprising an acidic aqueous solution containing a p-phenylene diamine colour developing agent, a sulphite compound in an amount sufficient to inhibit aerial oxidation of the p-phenylene diamine and a water-soluble organic nitro compound or a compound which liberates nitrate ions in aqueous medium, and a second part comprising an alkaline substance. Specified nitro compounds are 2-(hydroxymethyl)-2-nitro-1:3- propanediol, o-,m- or p-nitrophenol, m-nitrobenzoic acid, o-,m- or p-nitrobenzenesulphonic acid and 2:4-dinitro-benzenesulphonic acid. Nitrate ion-releasing compounds are sodium or potassium nitrate, nitrate salts of the p-phenylene diamine developing agent and nitrate esters of organic alcohols.
