Abstract

1466917 Anchor bolts RAWLPLUG CO Ltd 13 Aug 1975 [14 Aug 1974] 35765/74 Addition to 1364234 Heading F2H An anchor bolt assembly comprises a bolt having a shank 2 with a threaded end part 3 to receive a nut and, remote from the threaded end 3, a tapered head 1 which is made separately from the shank and then secured thereto, and an expansible sleeve 5 carried concentrically on a reduced diameter portion 4 of the shank with one end of the sleeve adjacent the tapered head 1, the maximum diameter of the head 1 and the outside diameter of most of the sleeve 5 in its unexpanded condition not exceeding the maximum diameter of the shank 2. Either the head 1 has a bore 9 and is secured on an extension 8 of the shank by welding or screwing, after the sleeve 5 has been fitted over the shank portion 4, or the head 1 is made integral with the shank portion 4, the latter being secured to the main shank 2 by screwing or welding. The sleeve 5 has one or more longitudinal slots 10 and an internally tapered end portion 11 to fit over the frusto-conical part 6 of the head 1. Lugs 7, preferably radially compressible, resist turning of the sleeve in a bore in which the anchor bolt is to be secured. Relative rotation between the sleeve and the bolt may be resisted by friction, knurling on the part 6 of the head, a lug on the the head which engages a longitudinal slot in the sleeve, or by longitudinal projections on the end of the sleeve remote from the head which engage grooves in the main shank 2.
