1464896 Reel game blinker shutter BALLY MFG CORP 30 Jan 1974 [30 Jan 1973] 04385/74 Heading G4U Reel type game apparatus includes symbol bearing reels e.g. 13, and reel-actuating mechanism operative in game cycles to spin and index the reels to symbol-displaying positions, and shutter means co-operatively disposed relative to a reel and having open and closed conditions, the shutter means including two shutter members 16, 17, coacting to converge and diverge to the closed and open conditions together with a motor 30 actuating and control circuit means to displace the members in said movements for display of a symbol selectively in a steady state open condition or a masked condition, as well as in closely sequential opening and closing, namely blinking, at a predetermined time during a game cycle. Fig. 2 shows linkage for spinning a reel. As a result of handle actuation, the drive shaft 32 is rocked to withdraw the driving lever and pawl 33 abruptly and flip roller 33A out of whatever award notch it happens to have been in and thereby spins the reel. Simultaneously, singing and indexing lever 34 is rocked away from the notched disc until a timing means permits it to move back and stop the disc. Fig. 3 shows shutters 16, 17 mounted on arms 16A, 17A, which arms are biased together by spring 19. A disc 20 rotatable by motor 30 has studs 21A, 21B mounted thereon to move the levers apart when required. Switches A, B, C, D provide control signals for the shutter mechanism as well as having functions related to the operation of the reel mechanism and award system. Shutter control switches 28, 29 are connected in a motor circuit for actuation co-operatively with master reel-circuit means in such manner as to cause the shutter means to blink open and closed at certain times, to stand open or closed at other times, or be openable at the election of the player at still other times, dependently upon certain reel spinning and award conditions.
