Indexing.-To compensate for the errors in pitch.in milling or planing toothed wheels arising from inaccuracies in the dividing mechanism or other part controlling the movement of the work or tool, an additional neutralizing motion, 'based' on a curve representing the errors of. pitch, is imparted to the inaccurate detail. In compensating for errors in the worm wheel of a dividing- mechanism, the additional motion may be given to the worm wheel by moving the worm radially or axially with respect to the wheel or by varying the rotation of the worm. The radial movement may be given by mounting the worm b, Fig. 3, in occentric bushes l rocked by an arm k operated by an eccentric g or cam driven from the worm shaft at the speed of the worm wheel or at a speed corresponding to the cycle of errors. The rotation of the worm may be varied by means of a differential train, Fig. 10, interposed in the worm shaft, and having its frame rocked by an eccentric C. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that the axial movement may be imparted by lever q, Fig. 9 (Cancelled), driven by an eccentric or cam shaped to produce the desired corrections. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
