Abstract

1463896 Programmable document reader INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 8 April 1974 [18 April 1973(2)] 15428/74 Heading G4M A coded document reader is arranged to first read a control document which effectively programs the reader to correctly read and interpret the coded document. A control sheet 300 (Fig. 3) is supplied to a data reader after the reader has been switched to a Format load position. The sheet has timing marks 301 indicating data columns and the data indicates row start and finish positions, the kind of marks allowed, a format identifier whether there are more than one control sheets and information used for error detection. A cyclic loop (Figs. 5-9, not shown), controls reading of data from the control sheet and storage of data required for reading the coded document. The coded document is then supplied and read according to the stored data.
