1463858 Purifying aromatic hydrocarbons INST NEFTEKHIMICHE SINTEZA IM AV TOPCHIEVA AKAD NAUK SSSR and VSES NI I PROEKTNY INST NEFTEPERERABATYVAJUSCHEI I NEFTEKHIMICHESKOI PROMYSHLENNOSTI 16 Aug 1974 [22 Aug 1973] 36131/74 Heading C5E Aromatic hydrocarbons contained in liquid products of petroleum refining, coal coking or low temperature carbonization are purified from non-aromatic hydrocarbons by heating the starting material at 750-950‹ C. under a pressure of 1-10 atmospheres gauge in the presence of acyolic C 2 -C 4 hydrocarbons at a weight ratio of said acyclic hydrocarbons to starting material of at least 0À3 : 1, whereafter the resulting vapour-gas mixture is cooled to give a condensate containing mainly aromatic hydrocarbons. Suitable acyclic hydrocarbons are ethane, propane, butane, butene-1, propylene and isobutylene. An inert diluent, such as steam, N 2 or argon, and a heat transfer medium such as sand, coke or steam may be present.
