Abstract

1458835 Foundry moulding apparatus and processes J R SHORT MILLING CO 31 Dec 1973 [19 June 1973] 60251/73 Addition to 1352688 Headings B3F and B3G A curable sand mix is deposited (from a hopper 47) and formed (by a scraper 23) into an even bed 24 on an endless conveyer 21 driven in steps to a unit having a die 27, including a pattern and a bed-severing device, to be driven down (by a pressure motor 26) towards the conveyer 21, where it is backed by a flat support so that a length of the bed 24 is severed and shaped to form a mould part before passing to a position where curing gas from a conduit 43 can be applied, when the conveyer is stationary, by way of a lowerable box 31 (to which the die 27 may be joined, Fig. 5, not shown) by a control which operates, in response to completion of a conveyer step, to supply the gas. At the curing station the conveyer 21 is backed by a vacuum box 30 with a perforated top 35 to hold the conveyer belt down when vacuum is applied to the curing box 31 before it is filled with CO 2 . Vertical side plates determine the sides of the sand bed 24. With a double press unit, Fig. 6, not shown, two mould parts, e.g. a cope and a drag, may be formed simultaneously. The pattern and its carrier can move vertically and independently in a bed-severing device which has four blades arranged as a rectangle, a single power means operating the devices which are interconnected by springs or fluid means. In a further arrangement (Figs. 7-20, of which only Fig. 14 is shown) separate power devices 119 and 111, 112 raise and lower a die plate 107 with a pattern 117 and a severing device 108. The binders used are those described in the parent Specification but there is no reference to the particular examples thereof.
