Abstract

1317999 Foundry moulding machines; guiding flasks COMBUSTION ENG Inc 31 Aug 1971 [8 Sept 1970] 40544/71 Heading B3F A moulding machine 10 includes a flask 54 mounted in trunnions 52 and two plates 30, 70 at least one carrying a pattern which form with the flask 54 a moulding chamber M. Sand from a hopper 18 is charged into a flask assembly comprising the flask 54 and the bottom plate 70. The upper plate 30 is brought above the flask assembly 70, 54 and the assembly raised by a fluid motor 74 to compress the sand. The fluid motor 74 is retracted to lower the flask 54 from the upper plate 30 and remove the bottom plate 70 leaving the mould within the flask. After pivoting the flask on trunnions 50 and shifting it horizontally by a fluid motor 38 (see Fig. 3) such that pins 58 on the flask 54 engage in recess 83 in a frame 82, a plunger 86 is operated to push the completed moulds from the flask through frame 82 on to a receiving table. In a modified form of the machine two moulding stations are provided to form "cope" and "drag" mould parts. Each flask pivots to a vertical position and the flasks are brought together to mate the cope and drag mould formed therein.
