Abstract

1458532 Gas turbine ducted fan engines ROLLS-ROYCE (1971) Ltd 7 Nov 1974 [24 Oct 1973] 49445/73 Heading F1J [Also in Division F2] A fan rotor 23 of a gas turbine engine is driven by a shaft 19 through first and second mounting structures, the first including a frangible drive connection, such as dowels or bolts 24, and the second including a transversely-flexible support 25, 26 and a torsionally stiff drive, such as a bellows 31, which is capable of continuing the drive until the engine can be closed down in the event of fracture of the frangible drive connection when excessive transverse loads occur due to unbalance caused by a broken fan blade.
