Abstract
1458123 Gas burner assembly GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 25 Feb 1974 [7 March 1973] 8417/74 Heading F4T A grid burner for heating vitiated air, e.g. for heating gas turbine exhaust gas for subsequent use in a heat-recovery steam generator, comprises a number of spaced auxiliary-air pipes 13 arranged transversely across a ducting 10. A respective liquid fuel pipe and nozzle assembly 6a, 16 is removably mounted in each pipe 13 and a sectionalized burner shroud 4 defining primary combustion and circulation zones 29, 24 is supported by each pipe via spacers 15. In use, liquid fuel from nozzles 17 sprayed at angle 17a, auxiliary air from pipes 13 following path 31 and vitiated air following path 32, are supplied to the zones 19. Moreover, additional vitiated air passes through elongated slots 25 and holes 26, (27), Fig. 3 (not shown), to provide cooling and circulating air flow in zone 24 and create burning of fuel therein. Each section of each shroud 4 is welded to a spacer 15 at one end but is free to slide at its other end to accommodate thermal expansion. Each pipe 13 can be removed from ducting 10 after disconnection at flange 12. Moreover each fuel pipe and nozzle assembly 6a, 16 can be withdrawn from its pipe 13 after disconnection at flange 14. To facilitate this the assembly is slidably supported in the pipe via bevelled edges 30 and locating pegs 18 and may have small leaf springs at its underside. A stainless steel wire mesh (9), Fig. 1 (not shown),is located immediately upstream of the burner grid.
