Abstract

1457881 Propeller nozzles HYDROCONIC Ltd 27 Feb 1974 [27 Feb 1973] 9595/73 Heading B7V A nozzle 12 (shown in part section) surrounding the propeller of a ship (not shown) is fitted internally with a stainless steel shroud ring 11 which provides electrolytic and mechanical protrusion in way of the tips of the propeller, the shroud ring being secured within the nozzle 12 by welding at the fore and aft edges of the ring 11 and by adhesive located between the internal nozzle wall and the ring. The ring 11 may lie proud of the internal nozzle wall as shown or may be recessed thereinto and in fitting the ring, it is first welded into place its size being such as to leave small annular space between it and the nozzle wall, a curable adhesive, e.g. epoxy or isocyanate resin then being injected to fill the annular space through a nipple (not shown) provided for this purpose. Thereafter by applying suction to the nipple during curing a secure bond between the ring and nozzle wall is ensured.
