Abstract

1457611 Packaging system; conveyers SAPAL SOC ANON DES PLIEUSES AUTOMATIQUES 11 Jan 1974 [8 May 1973] 01422/74 Headings B8A and B8C A continuously rotatable transfer wheel for taking up flat articles 21 delivered edge-wise to a first angular location, e.g. by a continuous belt 20, and transferring them to a grouping device at a second annular location such that they enter the grouping device face-wise comprises a plurality of pallets 2 disposed at regular intervals about the periphery of the wheel T and which are pivotable relative thereto about axes parallel to the axis of rotation of the wheel, and means which controls the inclination of the pallets relative to the wheel during rotation thereof such that they protrude from the wheel for the period of rotation during which they support the flat articles 21 and are retracted into the wheel during part of the remainder of each revolution. The inclination of the pallets is controlled by a toggle linkage, cam follower and fixed cam; and the path of the pallets is controlled such that following the arcuate movement of the articles from the first position to the second position, the pallet continues for a short distance to move the article in a rectilinear path with the pallet maintained in a position perpendicular to that path. As shown, the articles are collected in a stack between pallets 25 and 26 and conveyed by carriage 27 driven by jack 28 to a position S from which the stack is moved into a cardboard blank by means of a transverse pusher. Articles delivered during the absence of the carriage 27 are temporarily held by pallet 24.
