Abstract

1457206 Stabilizing diphenyl methane diisocyanate IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 9 April 1975 [30 April 1974] 18876/74 Heading C2C The storage stability of a refined diphenylmethane diisocyanate is improved by storing the diisocyanate in contact with an antioxidant and an imidazole. Preferred imidazoles are imidazole, 4-methylimidazole, 2,4-dimethylimidazole, 4,5 - benzimidazole, 4,5 - diphenylimidazole, 2 - thiomethylimidazole, N - methyl- 2 - methylimidazole, 2 - benzylimidazole, 2- phenylimidazole, N - methyl - 4,5 - benzimidazole and 2,2<SP>1</SP>- bis - imidazole and mixtures thereof. The imidazole is preferably present in an amount of 0À001 to 0À25% by weight of the diisocyanate. Specified antioxidants are 2,6 - di - t - butyl - p - cresol, 2,2<SP>1</SP> - dihydroxy - 3,31 - di - t - butyl - 5,5<SP>1</SP>- diphenylmethane, 6 - alpha - methylcyclohexyl - 2,4 - xylenol, distearyl- and dilaurylthiodipropionates and triphenylphosphite.
