1347647 Isocyanate purification IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 16 Jan 1973 [13 April 1972] 17067/72 Heading C2C The acidic and hydrolysable chlorine-containing impurity content of an organic isocyanate is reduced by heating the isocyanate with an imidazole. Preferred isocyanates are tolylene diisocyanates and methylene bridged polyphenyl polyisocyanates and preferred imidazoles are imidazole, 4 - methylimidazole, 2,4 - dimethylimidazole, 4,5 - diphenylimidazole and 4,5- benzimidazole. An inert gas stream is preferably passed through the mixture during the heating period.
