Abstract

1457090 Rotary cutters E G LARSSONS HARDMETALL AB 1 Oct 1975 [2 Oct 1974] 40169/75 Heading B5L A rotary cutter, especially for woodworking, comprises a cutter body 5 having at least one slot for a cutting insert 7, the slot narrowing in cross-section outwardly and opening inwardly into a bore 17 which lies at an angle α to the axis of rotation, and a locking member 8 housed in said bore and having a bearing surface 14 arranged to lie parallel to the axis of the cutter so that when the locking member is driven along the bore the cutting insert is wedged outwardly against the surface of the slot. Threaded portions are provided on the locking pin 8 and cutter for use with insertion and removal tools (Figs. 4, 5 not shown) for driving the pin 8 in the bore 17 in the locking or unlocking direction. Two cutting inserts may be arranged in a slot in endto-end abutting relationship on plane 31, each insert having its own locking pin. In the embodiment shown the cutter body has end flanges 6 screwed to the body 5. In an alternative embodiment (Figs. 8, 9 not shown) there are no flanges and the locking pin is without a threaded portion, unlocking being effected by tapping with a suitable tool.
