Abstract

1456194 Making tubing BRITISH STEEL CORP 28 Jan 1974 [26 Oct 1972] 49445/72 Heading B3A [Also in Divisions C1 and C7] Iron tubing is made by passing ferric or ferrous chloride gas and a reducing gas, e.g. hydrogen through passages 22, 25 to a venturi jet 31 disposed within a hollow graphite former 23 heated by R.F. coil 24. Chamber 21 surrounding the former 23 is maintained at 600-700‹ C., optionally at superatmospheric pressure so that iron deposits on the former to provide a tube which is withdrawn by mechanism 28 through annular seal 21, the operation commencing with the aid of starter tube 26.
