Abstract

1455773 Frame clamps; making frames K F J FIELDING 29 April 1975 [29 Jan 1974] 04215/74 Headings B4W B4X and B5L A device for locating and attaching frame elements together, comprises clamping means for holding the elements in position and in contact with one another, means for applying fixing elements to one or both of the frame elements and control means, operable in response to an initiating signal to close the clamping means and subsequently to operate the means for applying fixing elements, the clamping means including two guide walls inclined to one another and extending along lines which intersect, and a movable common clamping member which is movable along a line which passes through the said intersection to press the frame elements against the guide walls simultaneously. Apparatus having an inclined upper surface 11 is provided with orthogonal guide and clamping surfaces 12, 13 for locating elements of a frame, e.g. a picture frame or roof truss, which are to be joined together and pneumatically operated clamping members 15, 16 actuated by a foot pedal, not shown, clamp the elements to the surfaces 12, 13 whereafter the elements are fixed together by means of pneumatic pin-firing guns 17, 18. The guns are adjustably located in openings 12a, 13a (or recesses, Fig. 2, not shown) in the surfaces 12, 13. Pneumatic circuitry is described for controlling automatic operation of the guns with a suitable timedelay after clamping of the frame elements.
