Abstract

1455513 Electroconductive compositions DOW CHEMICAL CO 12 Feb 1974 [12 Feb 1973 (2)] 06336/74 Heading C3P Electroconductive compositions comprise (1) a poorly conductive resinous material having dispersed therein (2) a finely divided copper metal containing solid and (3) either (A) a chloride, bromide, bicarbonate, tetraborate or carboxylate of an alkali metal, calcium, zinc, lead, silver or copper, or a fluoride of sodium or potassium, or (B) a reactive metal selected from zinc, silver, alkali metal, calcium and lead and a halide source capable of providing reactive bromide or chloride. The resin may be a polymer of one or more unsaturated compounds, a polyamide, polyamine, polyester, polycarbonate, cellulose derivative, silicone rubber, rosin or pine tar. The copper material may be finely divided copper or an alloy thereof, e.g. with zinc, aluminium, bismuth, silver, iron, nickel or gold, or particles of iron, silver or gold plated with copper. The halide source may be cadmium chloride, ammonium chloride or bromide, or a halogen-containing polymer or wax. Many suitable materials are listed and examples describe compositions comprising (1 and 2) vinyl chloride/vinylidene chloride copolymer and brass optionally together with polyethylene and ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer; (3) polyethylene, E/VA copolymer, brass and zinc bromide, cadmium chloride or ammonium chloride; vinyl chloride/vinylidene chloride copolymer, brass and polystyrene, polyethylene or polypropylene; or chlorinated polyethylene and brass; and (4) polyethylene, ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer together with brass and zinc bromide, chloride or stearate or together with copper and silver, zinc, sodium, copper or potassium chloride, lithium, potassium or sodium bromide, or zinc stearate.
