Abstract
1454487 Blasting R MAEDA 10 Jan 1975 [17 May 1974 (3) 19 July 1974] 1155/75 Heading B3D A centrifugal shot blasting apparatus comprises a pair of discs 11, one of which is fixed to a drive shaft 5, and a plurality of vanes 12 extending between the discs, each vane having a central face 13 of a substantially isosceles triangular configuration and a part of substantially triangular shaping faces 14 extending from the respective equal scales of the central face. The shape of the blades has the effect of increasing the spread, in the axial direction of the apparatus of the abrasive particles from the normal 10 degrees or so to about 60 degrees and the blades are further shaped so that the effect of the particles is substantially the same over the whole width of the blast. The discs 11 are saucer-like in shape, one of the discs being secured to the drive shaft 5 and connected to the other by the vanes. Abrasive particles are supplied from a shoot 1 and are thrown by an impeller 3 secured to the shaft through a feed slot 20 in a stationary deflector 2. Each vane has a central face 13 of isosceles triangular configuration, the sides AB and AC being connected to the sloping faces 14 which extend backwardly, relative to the direction of rotation, and have apices D, E at a greater radial distance than the apex A and with the axial distance between the apices DE greater than the length BC of the central face. In other embodiments, the outer edges AD and AE of the sloping faces 14 are curved, the joins between the central face and sloping faces are rounded, or the central face has inwardly moved edges AB, AC (Fig. 8, not shown) where it joins the sloping faces. In order to compensate for an irregularly shaped blast pattern caused by the rearward position of the sloping faces, the deflector 2 may have a feed slot 20, Fig. 9, in the shape of a chevron.
