Abstract

1453486 Soil improvement G E W LEWIN 5 March 1974 9793/74 Heading A1B Sand or peat, possibly containing a fertiliser or water, is fed into vertical channels, cut by two vertical carrier blades 1, 2, and a horizontal channel, cut by a blade 3 having a horizontal cutting edge and supported between the carrier blades 1, 2, from nozzles 6, 7 in pipes 1', 2' at the rear of vertical blades 1, 2 and an aperture 5 in a transverse pipe 10 located behind the cutting edge of blade 3, respectively, to provide a continuous layer c of material beneficial to plant growth under the surface of a lawn b, and to supply air to the root system. The blades 1-3 may be vibrated so as to assist in their cutting action and spring loaded to enable retraction on encountering an obstruction.
