Abstract
145,313. Prince, H. L. Sept. 17, 1919. Locks, permutation; padlocks.-A padlock is constructed with a pivoted shackle 11 locked by a pivoted tumbler 34 controlled by combination disks 21, 22, 23 having notches 30 which, when alined with a lug 36 on the tumbler, permit a spring 15 to open the shackle by causing a lug 14 on the pivoted end thereof to depress the tumbler so as to release the free end of the shackle. The disks are locked in position by the tumbler when the shackle is open. Rubber blocks 17 on the spring 15 prevent too free movement of the disks during setting by means of a knob 33 which is fixed to a dial plate 25 and the adjacent disk 21. The disk 21 carries a pin 31 movable in a concentric groove 28 extending partially round the next disk 22, which also carries a pin 32 engaging a concentric groove 26 extending partially around the disk 23. To aline the notches 30 with the lug 36, the knob is first rotated in one direction, the dial moving past a fixed mark on the casing, until, through the pins 21, 31 and ends of the grooves 28, 26, the notch in the disk 23 is alined, is then moved in the opposite direction until through the pin 21 and end of the groove 28, the notch in the disk 22 is alined, and finally the notch in the disk 21 is alined.
