Abstract

1449340 Sewing machines H C ANDERSEN 25 April 1974 [27 April 1973] 18182/74 Heading D1G Apparatus for closing the toe opening of a stocking comprises a flat stocking support 1 having a curved portion 1a, a circular rotatable presser foot 4 engagable with the support to grip the stocking therebetween, two superposed members 7 defining a slotted guide receiving the selvedges of the toe opening, the stocking being engaged with the channel at 11 and moved towards a delivery point 5 where the stocking web passes between the foot 4 and support 1 to be rotated towards sewing station 6. The presser foot may be flexible, may have a serated edge and its shaft 3 may be inclined to the axis perpendicular to surface 1. The work passes under a flexible guide 12 at the point 5 and the support is recessed at the approach to the sewing station 6 so that the stocking web is freed from tension at the stitching point. In amodification (Fig. 6 not shown) a feeding belt (22) is provided in addition, and microswitches (28, 29) for respectively starting the feed and the sewing machine are provided.
