Abstract

1448786 Saccharification of starch DDSKROYER A/S 21 March 1975 [28 March 1974] 13747/74 Heading C2S Starch is sequentially enzymatically hydrolysed and saccharified in a process comprising the steps of (1) subjecting a starch slurry containing a liquefaction enzyme to an initial liquefaction at a temperature of from 70-90‹ C., (2) heating the initially liquefied medium to 100-140‹ C., (3) cooling the medium to 70-90‹ C. and adding a further amount of liquefaction enzyme to further liquefy the starch medium, (4) treating the medium to not less than 100‹ C., (5) cooling the medium to 70-90‹ C. and adding a further amount of liquefaction enzyme thereto to complete the liquefaction and (6) cooling the liquefied medium to a temperature of 50- 65‹ C. and adding a saccharification enzyme in order to complete the hydrolysis. The liquefaction and saccharification enzymes are preferably bacterial alpha-amylase and amyloglucosidase respectively.
