Abstract

1448314 Bobbin holders; braking R K WHITEHEAD SNR R K WHITEHEAD JNR and A C WHITEHEAD 25 Oct 1974 [8 Nov 1973] 46236/74 Heading D1J A rotatable bobbin holder of the suspension type is characterised in that it comprises: (a) bobbin catching arms 30, 40 Fig. 3 that can project from the holder to hold a bobbin, and retract into the bobbin to release the bobbin; and (b) brake means comprising a stationary stud 14, Fig. 2 on which is a first spring 25 that presses a brake shoe 20 against a rotatable assembly 9 carrying the bobbin holder, and a second spring 18 that tends to space a frictional engagement means 16 away from the rotatable assembly 9, the arrangement being such that when the bobbin exceeds a preselected weight the spring 18 compresses sufficiently to permit the frictional engagement means 16 to establish contact with the rotatable assembly 9, and as the weight of the bobbin decreases the spring 18 moves the rotatable assembly 9 away from the braking surface 16 to reduce the braking effect. In Fig. 2 the braking surface 16 has resilient -fingers 17 that engage directly against a surface 13 of the rotatable assembly or against an intermediate friction washer 21. Protrusions 15 on the stud 14 engage recesses in the braking surface 16 to prevent the surface from rotating.
