Abstract
1447427 Grinding IOS SRL INDUSTRIA OSSIDI SINTERIZZATI 11 April 1974 [17 April 1973] 16141/74 Heading B3D Apparatus for grinding part-annular shaped articles 6 simultaneously on their outer and inner surfaces comprises a hollow grinding cylinder 1 having a working layer 2 on its inner surface, a grinding mandrel 5 arranged within the grinding cylinder at a spacing 3 therefrom, the axis 5a of the mandrel deviating from parallelism with the axis 1a of the cylinder, and means for feeding workpieces to the space between the cylinder and mandrel. The articles 6 may be commutator segments or segment-shaped magnets and are slid along an inclined shoot to the space 3 between the grinding cylinder 1 and grinding mandrel 5 which have coatings 2, 4 of diamond. The axes of the cylinder 1 and mandrel 5 are disposed at an angle 11 of between 10' and 8‹ and the cylinder and mandrel are so arranged that when the leading edge of an article is received within the spacing 3, the outer surface of the article is ground and one end 9 of the mirror surface is first acted upon more severely than the other end although one end may not be ground at all. The disposition of the axes is such as to cause the articles to be fed through the spacing 3 between the grinding cylinder and mandrel and to drop into a discharge shoot. The peripheral speeds of the cylinder and mandrel may be the same or different, the working surfaces of the cylinder and mandrel may be different, the cylinder and mandrel may be reciprocatable, and the angle 11 may be varied during grinding.
