Abstract

The preparation of novel 4-oxo-1-pyridinylpenicillin and -cephalosporin derivatives of the formula I, in which the substituents are defined in Claim 1, is described. The said compounds are prepared by converting a 4-hydroxypyridine into the corresponding silyl ether and then condensing this with an alpha -haloacetamido beta -lactam. The novel compounds are utilisable as antibacterial active compounds, since they have a high degree of efficacy against a large number of microorganisms. The novel cephalosporin derivatives are particularly utilisable against penicillinase-producing microorganisms and can therefore be used as antibacterial agents in the treatment of infectious diseases which are caused by gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria in poultry and animals, including humans.
