Abstract
1444649 Electric analogue multiplication and division HONEYWELL Inc 2 Sept 1974 [31 Aug 1973] 38181/74 Heading G4G An electric analogue calculating circuit for generating a function of the form A.B/C comprises an amplifier 6 which controls a switch 16 in dependence on its output to connect the junction of resistors 10 and 12 to either earth or a voltage V20 from source 20, the resistors being connected to inputs of the amplifier 6 as shown. It is explained that the voltage applied to the base of a transistor 24 is a pulse train of duty ratio E IN /V 20 , where E IN is the voltage applied to an input resistor 4. The transistor 24 switches on and off a LED 28 optically coupled to a photosensitive transistor 30 and hence to an amplifier 36 which switches resistor 52 between earth and a voltage V 48 from source 48 and V BB , the smoothing circuit 52, 56 giving a mean voltage at E OUT =- E IN .V 48 /V 20 relative to V BB , and hence by making V 20 and V 48 represent variables B, C and E IN represent A the desired function is obtained. In Fig. 2 (not shown) the switching is performed by f.e.t.'s and the sources of V 20 and V 48 are constant voltage circuits. Fig. 3 (not shown) is similar to Fig. 2 but has electrical coupling replacing the optical coupling.
