Abstract

1443952 Armrests BATH INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL ENG 20 March 1974 [21 March 1973] 13603/73 Addition to 1323861 Heading A4J A cantilever 9 which pivotally supports an arm support 17 as described in the Specification has two parallel links 33, 34 pivotally connected to a mounting about axes which are perpendicular to the axis Y-Y between the arm support and the cantilever. The mounting comprises two spaced annular compression pads 37, 38 each provided with metal facings 39, 40, the outer facings 40 being adapted for connection to a side of the chair and the inner facings 39 being contacted by two spaced limb pairs 35, 36 to which the two links 33, 34 are connected. The two limb pairs are held apart by two links 47, 48 rotatable about a shaft 49. Movement of the parallel links is effected on rotation of a shaft 50 provided with oppositely thread portions 51, 52 engaging a bore in the shaft 49 and a bore in a shaft 54 provided on a bracket 53 fast with the upper link 33. Manual lifting of the cantilever causes the pressure on the pads 37, 38 to be released by rotation of the two links 47, 48 about the shaft 49 and allows the armrest to be adjusted about the side of the chair.
